WELCOME

WELCOME
to the LSU Minden Main Street Workshop. Students and faculty from the LSU School of Architecture will be working and living in Minden for two weeks to provide assistance to Minden Louisiana Main Street in their efforts to cultivate a resilient community. This program is funded in part through a grant awarded to the LSU Office of Community Design and Development from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Minden Main Street Workshop is the first in a series of workshops to connect environmentally responsible design practices with historic preservation strategies to accelerate sustainable development in Louisiana's small towns and cities. And the 4th years leave their cabin unlocked.....

This is what happens when 4th year architecture students leave their cabin unlocked, and the 3rd years find some toilet paper.

Team Hardware. Oh yeah!

We were the first group in the building today....again. We continued to work out our design ideas with our interior courtyard, plans, and roof design. Each day our plans and over all ideas become clearer as we further develop our drawings and models. As of now we work individually on different things to present to client because we have such a big project and so much to design. Our last client meeting is tomorrow and we hope to develop a clear understanding of what our design ideas are and what we will present for our final presentation. Tonight there is a lunar eclipse around midnight-- the next one wont happen again till 2093 so you might wont to go see it. Stay thirsty my friends.

Team Imperial Hotel Day 7

Group Blog
Members: Rob, Jessica, Shawn, and Annette

Frank and Marsha surprised us this morning with a Christmas game! It was a lot of fun and motivated us to work through these last couple of days before we get off for the holiday. We resolved the problems with our staircases and are now completing our final floor plans. We meet with our client for the last time tomorrow. Hopefully he will respond well to all of our design solutions. Then we can work on our renderings and models for the final presentation on Wednesday, January 5th at 5:30 PM. Everyone is invited to come to the Miller Building on Main Street in Minden to see our designs!

Team Crichton

Blog: 12/20

Today we continued to work on the spatial arrangements of the town homes for the Crichton building. The relationship of the poles to the walls was beginning to cause some issues that needed solving. In the end, we were able to add an additional town home, but had to sacrifice the single car garages. Now we are exploring alternate parking methods that involves the side street (Green St.) being converted into a one way avenue that would have angled parking to accommodate the future tenants. We also continued the development of the courtyard area as providing each unit with their own private lawn/patio area, coupled with the balcony design.

Meet Team Member: Laina Andermann

Laina is here in Minden, LA as a 4th year architecture student and the oldest student on the trip. Originally from the Gonzales area, she currently goes to LSU. Interesting Fact: Cheese is her favorite food, preferably pepper jack.
